September 2011
My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I hope and pray you have each had a great summer, one filled not only with travels and activities unique to the summer months but also with a measure of rest and renewal. However, if you’re like me, you’re probably looking forward to the start of the school year and the return to routine that it promises! That being said, this September is anything but routine because of the continuing celebration of our 100th Anniversary.
Please note the following activities and plan to participate in as much as you can.
LPUMC Golf Tournament, Sat., 9/10
This fundraiser to bless the next generation of LPUMC members headed off to college. Many ways to participate or support – contact Bill Buchholz, 970-593-0335,or Stan and/or Shirley Chamberlain,720-494-0670.
"Period Worship” on Sept. 18th and Sept. 25th
An emphasis on our Wesleyan heritage on 9/18 and a retelling of some of our LPUMC story on 9/25, celebrating the faithfulness of the congregation through our first century of ministry.
UM Men’s Chicken Roast on Sat., 9/24, 4:30 – 7 PM.
Not only GREAT roasted chicken supper, but also unveiling of several refurbished and lighted stained glass windows from the original church building and a concert by a local Elvis impressionist, Steve Creason, featuring “The Music of the King," parts of Elvis’s Gospel repertoire. See Steve Gaffney, 303-702-9877, John Sowers, 720-494-0911,or others of the UM Men’s group for tickets.
New Church Challenge from First UMC Longmont
In association with the “Music of the King” presentation, we will be asking for a free-will offering of quarters for Wellington UMC, a new UM Church start. We’ve been challenged by First UMC of Longmont to raise 100 lbs. of quarters in celebration of our 100th Anniversary. They are raising 140 lbs. of quarters in celebration of their 140th Anniversary this year. Let’s not let them best us in this friendly competition to support a new United Methodist Church start in our District! (In case you were wondering, we’re estimating 100 lbs. of quarters to be in the neighborhood of $1,700!)
This has been a really exciting year in the life of the Church, and Kim & I and our family feel privileged to be able to share in it with everyone who knows and loves Longs Peak United Methodist Church where we are . . .
On Fire For Christ,
Pastor Steve
