The Blessing of the Seeds

This coming Sunday, June 1st, we begin our summer worship series, something I'm calling Celebrating Creation "Ft. Collins Style": Agriculture and Theology - A Joyous Intersection!

When Kim and I first moved up here from Longmont two years ago, the scene that I remember being so striking as I drove north on College was the “outdoor laboratory” out in front of the Old Ft. Collins High School on Remington, growing the most exquisite range of plants with beautiful colors of flowers and leaves spread out across the lawn in carefully cultivated beds of soil.  Stunning to one not yet ensconced in “Colorado A&M” territory!

It is this spirit of celebration of the beauty of creation as it finds expression here in Ft. Collins that gives rise to the worship focus for the summer.  We’ll not be making a case for “creationism”, but we will be exploring many aspects of what it is to celebrate, cultivate, be responsible for, and take care of our Earth.  We begin with “blessing of the seeds”, which Rev. Rebecca McFee will lead us in this on June 1st, along with establishing a couple of community garden plots on the south side of the Church.  Rev. McFee's sermon is entitled "Living in the Meantime" and is sure to be of great interest to all.  Rumor has it there will be watermelon and a seed-spitting contest out in the lawns!

Please plan to come and join us for worship this Sunday and often through the summer.  It will be a lot of fun and, hopefully, very uplifting and encouraging as we celebrate God's good gifts in creation.
