Reclaiming Original Christianity
This Sunday, Sept. 22nd, we are bringing this mini-series focusing on the Jewish High Holy Days to a close with worship centered around the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkoth) or the "Season of Our Joy". This festival is described, among other places in the longer pericope, Leviticus 23:34-43. It is a joyous celebration lasting eight days, bracketed by special Sabbaths.
It will be a joy to have a colleague and friend, Rev. Rebekah Simon-Peter, with us as a guest preacher at the traditional services. Rebekah grew up Jewish, experienced a vision of Jesus, and went through a period of exploration of and discipleship in the Christian faith during which she experienced a call to ministry. This found fruition in the Order of Elders in The United Methodist Church. Rebekah has served local churches in the Rocky Mountain Conference and now leads an active writing, speaking, and teaching ministry aimed at building bridges of understanding between Jews and Christians as well consulting with congregational leaders in the area of intra-church emotional systems and dynamics.
She will be preaching on the meaning and significance of the Feast of Tabernacles for Christians and Jews and will be referring to her newest book, The Jew Named Jesus, recently released by Abingdon Press.
Come join us for this celebrative conclusion to the Jewish High Holy Days and reclaim a bit of original Christianity! (See my blog for Sept. 8, 2013 for more on this).
