Back in the Saddle Again

Hi All,

What an amazing time away we had over the last few weeks - experiencing a 2,500 mile road trip with one of our kids (now a young adult graduate student) who is a PhD student at Florida International University in Miami, FL via Pensacola and Orlando, Florida - and then a flight to New Jersey to check into a non-residential D.Min. program at Drew Theological School with some tourist fun in New York City.  Amazing places - and what a pleasant surprise NYC was: None of the stereotypical negativity - an absolute delight.

That being said, I am back to Church now and preaching at our traditional services over the next many weeks as we continue in the current series, "pSummer in the pSalms".  We'll be looking at Psalm 119:1-8, 33-40 this coming Sunday, July 21st.  You who know the Psalms will recognize 119 as being the longest of them all (176 verses) because of its being built on an acrostic pattern with 8 lines per Hebrew character (22 of them).  You will also know it as being devoted to a celebration of the Torah, the "Law".  How do we celebrate in 176 verses the Law?  Well, we'll be looking into that!  There may be some surprising things you find out that lead to more of an appreciation for Torah than you may currently have.

I invite you to come and take part in worship with us on Sunday.  It seems this is the season for baptisms - which I am grateful for!  The future of the church resides in the next generation, and I am happy to say that we have many representatives of that generation in our midst - thanks be to God!

See you Sunday,

Steve
